What’s all the hype about Phi Mu Officer Academy?

This weekend, Phi Mu is excited to host the inaugural Phi Mu Officer Academy (Feb. 26-28) in Atlanta. Ga.! But what does this mean exactly? In years past, Phi Mu has provided collegiate chapters with regional officer training where six Executive Committee members underwent intense leadership courses. Chapters near each other would join together for a long weekend to learn the tricks and the trades of their specific Executive Committee position.

This year is no different – Phi Mu agrees that officer training is imperative to the success of its collegiate chapters.  But why not make it even more impactful?

Today through Sunday, chapter presidents, vice presidents, treasurers, membership directors, Phi directors and directors of harm reduction and prevention will still meet, as they have in years past, but instead of it being held regionally, all members will come together in one room, all 762 of them.

Programming is facilitated by Phi Mu staff and experienced volunteer officers and provides office-specific education as well as an opportunity for chapters to share their best practices. The topics covered were strategically planned to best equip these important chapter leaders with the knowledge, skills and resources they need to be successful. This is one of the largest-ever Phi Mu events with over 900 total attendees!

What type of trainings are offered?

Each officer will attend keynote sessions led by professional speaker Erin Fischer, ΔΑ, and National President Beth Monnin, Ρ – their remarks will bookend the weekend with Erin providing a warm welcome and Beth sending everyone home motivated to put into practice everything they are learning!

Each collegian will begin her office-specific training with “Phi Mu 101” that covers information about the National organization and FAQs to help officers be successful throughout their term.  Additional sessions will cover information specific to each officers’ duties, such as Billhighway information for treasurers, “KROP” for Phi directors, sexual assault prevention for directors of harm reduction and prevention and group dynamics for vice presidents.  Additionally, all officers will, with officers from other chapters, discuss how to have necessary, but sometimes difficult, conversations to ensure they are effectively fulfilling the responsibly they have as a chapter leader.
