Kids Against Hunger

Each of us chose to join this organization because we wanted to give back by doing something. Whether by giving a piece of our heart or volunteer hours  or a monetary donation, Phi Mus want to serve. In an effort to provide an opportunity through which hundreds of women working together (that’s us) could contribute to society, the National Headquarters decided it was time to take action in a BIG way.

We are pleased to announce that during the 2016 National Convention this July, #PhiTown attendees will partner with the nonprofit organization Kids Against Hunger (KAH) to support the local children of Chicago, Ill.

What does this mean exactly? On Friday, July 8, convention attendees will spend the first half of the day sorting, packaging and sealing meals for Chicago area children who need assistance with getting fed.

“As we celebrate our National Convention in Chicago we are thrilled to be partnering with Kids Against Hunger to pack and provide over 100,000 meals for children in Chicago,”  said Executive Director Darlene Reyes, KH

Kids Against Hunger Mission Statement: Our mission at Kids Against Hunger is to significantly reduce the number of hungry children in the USA and to feed starving children throughout the world. *Don’t leave us quite yet! For those of you unable to be with us in #PhiTown (which is most of you), we ask that you “lend to those less fortunate a helping hand” by playing a part —regardless of where you live.

Here are a few ways you, too, can participate!

  • Host your own packaging event: Gather collegians and alumnae near you for a day of service. KAH has a mobile team that will come to you to host an event in your very own community.
  • Volunteer at a local satellite location: Maybe you’re too busy to plan your own packing event — that’s okay! We encourage members to see if there is a satellite location* near you where you may go to volunteer your time. (*Please Note: Volunteer opportunities and hours of operation vary from one Kids Against Hunger location to the next.)
  • Donate online or through the mail: You also have the option to give back through a monetary donation! To “Feed Just One,” KAH asks for a $9 donation. Click HERE to view the donation portal.
