As a collegian, sisterhood retreat was my favorite part of the year as a Phi Mu. Retreat is one of the only times throughout the year where the entire chapter gets together to spend quality time with one another. Through retreats, there are often new-formed relationships and a freshened love for Phi Mu. Leaving sisterhood retreat, I was always overwhelmed with a feeling of gratitude for this organization that has brought so much opportunity and so many beautiful friendships into my life.

Delta Beta, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, hosted their first overnight sisterhood retreat this semester at a nearby summer camp. Delta Beta was founded in late 2016 and I am continually impressed by the caliber of women in the chapter. I arrived to campus with less than two weeks until the event and was blown away by the preparedness of the sisterhood development chairman and her committee. They had thought through all of the intricacies that came with planning an overnight event with over 100 women.

I can say confidently that the Delta Beta chapter thrives on words of affirmation. One of the chapter’s favorite activities from the retreat was writing notes to put in “positivity bags”. Chapter members decorated their own paper bag at the beginning of the retreat with their name on it. Members left compliments and encouraging notes in the bag throughout the retreat and it was the perfect souvenir to take home from the weekend.

Just like the ones that came before, this retreat left me with a full heart, thankful for the time I get to spend with our Delta Beta chapter of Phi Mu.

I challenge you this week to think of a sister you’re grateful for- show her some love and appreciation!
