The changing of seasons and daylight savings time every spring means it gets darker a lot later and there is more time left for everyone to enjoy the weather warming up. In Phi Mu America, it also means so many members get excited about Spring Break! The mid-semester rut is real, but when Spring Break rolls around, that can mean trips for vacation, service or learning for the women here at Texas Christian University.
This year, chapter members ventured all over the world for Spring Break. Malia, Vice President of Committees visited the country of Panama for an experience that included both fun and lots of learning. For her trip, she worked alongside an NGO, Voces Vitales, which focuses to provide education and holistic resources for young mothers, at a school in the Felipilo neighborhood of Panama City. She also had time for a little R&R on the La Playa Grande beaches and exploring the rich culture of Panama.
Ana, Secretary, marked another country off her bucket list by going to Peru. She was able to visit one of the seven wonders of the world, Machu Picchu and learned from the local female artisans about how they make textiles out of alpaca wool.
Other destinations for our adventurous members included Prague, Dubai, Ireland, and France. Spring Break truly wouldn’t be complete without a beach trip here and there and some of our members enjoyed the waves in Turks and Caicos, Mexico and Florida!
Whether Spring Break for you looks like taking some time to chill at home and catch up with family and friends, or learning more about another country and culture, we hope you have some much-needed time off from classes!
Remember to take a friend on all your adventures and stick together in a place that you might not know so well. That way, you’ll also have a dedicated photographer for all of those dreamy SB Instagram shots, don’t forget to tag @phimufraternity and use the hashtags #phimutravels #explΦreΜore
