Chapter of the Month: Alpha Iota – Mercer University

There are 137 collegiate Phi Mu chapters, and each one is unique! While each campus cultivates a different Phi Mu experience, every member shares a bond with her sisters in her values of love, honor and truth.

Each month a chapter will be profiled to allow everyone in Phi Mu world to learn more about their sisters from other chapters.

Chapter: Alpha Iota

School: Mercer University

Year Founded: 1938

Chapter Size: 109

Describe a successful Sisterhood Event: One of our many successful sisterhood events is PJ’s and Pancakes. Everyone in the chapter dresses in Pajamas and goes as a group to IHOP. We enjoy hanging out and eating pancakes together.

Describe a successful chapter-hosted Philanthropy Event: Every year we host Bonnamu which is based off the Bonnaroo music festival. We raise money by selling tickets to the concert. Performers include Phi Mu members and local singers and bands.

Popular Social Function Theme: One of our favorite events is a Masquerade Date Night. Everyone shows up in cocktail attire and wearing fun masks!

Fun Fact: Each year we do a tour of the Cannonball House, Wesleyan College and Riverside Cemetery. These places are important because Phi Mu was founded at Wesleyan, there is a replica of the Philomathean Room in the Cannonball House, and the cemetery is where Martha Hardaway Redding is buried. Macon is filled with so much Phi Mu history, so it is important to share that with our members.
