Like many Phi Mu collegians, Dana Harrison is passionate about Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals… it was one of the main reasons she joined Phi Mu at Sacramento State University. Having a cousin who was a patient at a CMN Hospital only solidified her personal connection to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and how this philanthropy helps children in need and improve their lives.
Dana is currently the Philanthropy Chairman for the Eta Rho Chapter and she was instrumental in bringing Dance Marathon to the Sacramento State campus. “As a natural entertainer, I believe Dance Marathon combines what I love most: philanthropy, CMN Hospitals, dance and Phi Mu,” said Dana. “Phi Mu has opened my eyes to those who need our helping hand, and Dance Marathon has given me a platform to do so.”
Although the Eta Rho Chapter was installed just three years ago, Dana and her sisters have already been recognized for their continued work benefitting the patients at UC Davis Children’s Hospital. Over the past two years, members have raised $15,000 for the hospital through Dance Marathon, scheduled multiple visits and volunteered throughout the past year to increase the fundraising efforts of the hospital’s corporate partners.
Individually, Dana has raised nearly $2,000 for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. As the current Miss Central California, she promotes her own personal platform, “Enriching People’s Lives through the Performing Arts” and also serves as a national goodwill ambassador for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, the national philanthropy of the Miss America Organization. Dana has participated in nearly 100 community service events as Miss Central California, with many benefiting Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, especially UC Davis Children’s Hospital.
Dana will graduate in the spring of 2021 with a bachelor’s degree in communications and journalism. She hopes to one day host a daily talk show emphasizing philanthropy, health and lifestyle and entertainment. She knows that her experiences in Phi Mu, Dance Marathon and as Miss Central California will prepare her for this career path: “Each experience has given me the chance to network in my community, advocate for change and be the light that others can follow. Each experience has helped mold me into the leader I have always wanted to be and with Phi Mu, Dance Marathon and Miss Central California, I have been blessed to meet and help so many wonderful people live better lives.”
Phi Mu appreciates the dedication that members like Dana have for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. If you would like to #Change Kids’ Health and #Change the Future, please consider making a $5 donation in honor of Child Health Day.
