Chapter Philanthropy & Monies Raised for CMN Hospitals:
Between Dance Marathon fundraising that goes directly to CMN Hospitals and our chapter philanthropy events and fundraisers, the women of Alpha Nu raised over $100,000 for CMN Hospitals this year. This total includes money raised by sisters who hold positions in Dance Marathon as dancers, Emerging Leaders, Captains, Assistant Directors and Overall Directors. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, we had to cancel this year’s annual philanthropy, Bonnamu, but we look forward to hosting it as soon as it is safe to do so!
Fun Chapter Facts:
Our house recently underwent a massive three-story renovation that included the addition of more resident rooms, a library and a gathering room (that is usually full on ‘Bachelor Mondays.’) During this renovation, we changed our exterior walls from a bright pink to a sleek modern grey. Before the renovation, our house was referred to as the “Pink Castle” on campus. We still have a slab of this pink paint in the back!
In our chapter, we are proud to have four members on UF’s Preview Staff, our new student orientation program. They are Caroline Abramovici, Kate Balthaser, Elizabeth Hargett and Brooke Jackson. We are so excited to watch these sisters lead and mentor UF’s newest students!
Points of Pride:
Florida Greek Awards – Greek Collaboration Award, Camille Respess and Outstanding Risk Manager, Meredith Schoppe (presented to our chapter officers for two consecutive years!)
2018-2020 Phi Mu Fraternity Lending a Helping Hand Award
2018-2020 Phi Mu Fraternity Outstanding New Member GPA Award
Interest Facts about our members:
Many sisters are leaders in Dance Marathon, Project Makeover, March of Dimes, University Athletic Association, Panhellenic Directors boards, UF Preview, Student Government and UF Homecoming and Gator Growl. Our sister Gaby Calixto was recently elected President of the Florida Cicerones, the official ambassadors of the University of Florida. Another sister, Camille Respess, was recently featured in a segment NBC’s “Meet the Press” with other student journalists.
Staying connected during COVID-19: We are staying connected through various ways during COVID-19. Throughout the quarantine, we have had many virtual events such as chapter meetings, committee meetings and sisterhood nights. Our President, Brittani Nelson, wrote handwritten letters to mail to all of the chapter members to spread encouragement. We are also staying connected through social media challenges such as Instagram Story Fill-Ins and a Q&A about who you miss most in the chapter and why.
