This month, we are excited to feature the Denver Area Alumnae Chapter, one of the Founders’ Circle chapter honorees for outstanding operations throughout the biennium. Founded in 1952, this alumnae chapter has been a great example of our faithful sisterhood in “the West” and recently gained two collegiate chapters in the state to support. Read on to learn more about the Denver Area Alumnae Chapter!
Philanthropy/Support of CMN Hospitals
Our chapter supports Children’s Hospital Colorado (CHCO) through donating items from its wish list, providing dinner at Ronald McDonald House for CHCO patients and families and offering financial support on Child Health Day. We also support Denver Area Panhellenic (DAP) philanthropy projects including Newborns in Need and the DAP Scholarship Fund.
Fun Chapter Facts
At least 20 different collegiate chapters are represented in the Denver Area Alumnae Chapter. Two years ago, Phi Mu was not well-known in the state but things have dramatically changed since the chapters at Colorado State University and the University of Colorado Boulder became the first Phi Mu collegiate chapters in the state in 2018! At the time of these extension opportunities, our chapter was already in the process of revitalizing itself and re-engaging local alumnae. We gained new members through Alumnae Initiations and by communicating with alumnae – all of whom were transplants to the state. We have maintained a dues-paying membership of 25 women and consistently have a majority participate in chapter events. We are very excited about the future of Phi Mu in Colorado and to continue building on the positive momentum we have created!
Support for Collegiate Chapters
Our members are excited to support the Xi Alpha Chapter at the University of Colorado Boulder and the Xi Beta Chapter at Colorado State University. We participated in the extension and Installation activities for both chapters and we’ve continued our support by attending Initiations, providing reception cakes and by sending Caring Carnations to officers for PMOA and convention. We also support their philanthropy events, other chapter activities and stay connected with them on social media.
Interesting Facts About Our Members
We truly love each other! We are a small but mighty group! It is amazing what we have accomplished over the last two years. Right now, we are running our alumnae chapter, serving on the Advisory Councils of our two collegiate chapters and serving our executive rotation in the Denver Alumnae Panhellenic – next year, Maureen Rojas, Upsilon (The Ohio State University), will be the DAP President! We all live busy personal and professional lives but remain committed to the work of Phi Mu.
Staying Connected During COVID-19
We have stayed connected through various Zoom activities this year including hosting a happy hour, playing Scattergories with the Colorado collegiate chapters, attending the DAP holiday celebration and participating in the national Ask a Sister events. We are also supporting our sisters by mailing a care package to a deployed sister, sending notes to an isolated sister, participating in Phi Mu’s Day of Giving, supporting Colorado collegiate chapters and doing volunteer outreach to get more people involved in our Colorado Phi Mu activities.
